BATS BBQ, named after the its proprietors Beau And Travis, is one of the newer area BBQ restaurants in the area and is located next to the Food Lion just off of Celanese. Their menu is a little different from the typical BBQ restaurant in that they offer some menu items that put a mexican spin on BBQ. It is there mexi-que items that are the real stars of the menu.
My favorite thing on the menu is the pork bbq tacos. The tacos come in fresh flour tortillas fried to where they have some crispness and filled with a large quantity of hand-pulled pork, drizzled with Rub Sauce (very unique flavor that compliments the taco well), topped with cheddar cheese and house-made pico de gallo. Put a little extra Rub Sauce on and this is a yumfest. It can be messy – suggest you eat this guy in the restaurant and get ready to wear some on your shirt. If you get them take out, you will be left with a soggy mess.
Also good – the pork burrito – with baked beans rolled up with the pork. Grilled to perfection.
I’ve never had better sweet potato fries and I always order them when they are on the menu.
The pulled pork sandwich is decent. Large amount of pork on the bun, almost half a pig I’d say. They smoke their pork butts for up to 24 hours resulting in tender, moist meat. Their sauces are all fresh and made in house. Sandwiches are served with 1 side. Plates and platters are served with 2 sides and Texas Toast. Other meat choices include Cajunized Beef Brisket and Ribs.
Beans are nice and sweet with a fairly thick sauce containing lots of shredded pork.
And Kraft has it all wrong- Bats BBQ’s 3-cheese macaroni is the cheesiest.
Service is fast and friendly and the restaurant is kept very clean.
