One step inside Savannah’s Tea Room and you’ll feel transported back in time to a place where formalities were upheld, ladies were adorned in hats and gloves, and conversation and the exchange of information occurred around the table not through an electronic device.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we all still took time out in the afternoon for a leisurely cup of tea? Instead afternoon tea has become something that is done only on special occasions.
Savannah’s Tea Room, in a new location on Confederate St since last year, is a charming place to celebrate a special occasion whether it be a bridal luncheon, a baby shower, or a special treat for mom to show her your appreciation. Located in a historic home just a block off Main St, Savannah’s Tea Room has room after room of elegantly designed spaces adorned with china and hats. You may have a hard time getting the man in your life inside this place as it is oozing with estrogen, but that’s OK. Some places are better left for us women-folk.
Feel free to get in character while you sip your tea and munch on your finger sandwiches. If you didn’t come dressed for tea, Savannah’s offers a selection of hats, boas, and other dress-up items for your enjoyment.
Savannah’s Tea Room is open Monday- Saturday for lunch from 11am-2pm. The menu is different each day of the week so check the website if you’d like to know the choices ahead of time.
The chicken salad sandwich ($8.50) is served daily with a choice of potato salad, macaroni salad, or Cape Code Chips as a side. On Mondays you’ll find a strawberry, turkey, and Brie Sandwich ($8.95) and on Wednesday don’t miss the Chicken Pot Pie.
Savannah’s Tea Room also serves tea by reservation at 2pm on Thursday-Saturday with a variety of loose-leaf teas to choose from. They also operate a bakery with everything from birthday cake to sweet potato pie to chocolate chess pie. A notice of 48 hours is needed for dessert orders.
