Mardi Gras Wreath How To

My husband and I both went to college in New Orleans and have many fond memories of Mardi Gras. We used to have a big Mardi Gras Party every year, but we haven’t had one since we moved to our new house 3 years ago. What’s great about Mardi Gras is anything goes. No need to worry about the decor being in good taste, the gawdier the better.

This Mardi Gras Wreath that I made couldn’t be easier. All you need is a foam wreath form, tulle, a glue gun, and some Mardi Gras trinkets.

Tulle in purple, green, and gold. I think I used about 5 yards each of the purple and green and 2 yards

of the gold.

Cut strips of the tulle. I ended up cutting most of them between 18 inches and 24 inches long and about 8-10 inches

wide. I like how it looks if the length varies a bit. If a few pieces are too long you can always trim them  when

you are done. One strip at a time, tie the tulle around the wreath form in a knot. You want the knots to be on the outside edge.

Bunch the pieces of tulle up as closely as possible. You will need to offset the knots slightly to do this. Have one

knot slightly in front of the one next to it, then the next one slightly behind. Tying the tulle is so easy and mindless.

It’s a great thing to do while you watch TV.

Trim any long pieces to give the wreath some uniformity.

Get your glue gun out.

I got the purple ornaments at Good Will for $1 and the rest of the stuff at Party City.

I had so much fun making it, I think I’ll make another one. If you decide to make one, be careful where you store it while you’re working on it. It seems to attract a lot of lint.

Maybe now I should start planning a Mardi Gras Party!
