Fort Mill Care Center

Since 1967, The Fort Mill Care Center has been helping Fort Mill families in need. It is only through the generous donations of food, money, and time that they are able to have such a profound impact on the community. Last year, The Fort Mill Care Center distributed 312,000 pounds of food, paid $225,000 in Utilities and Prescriptions, and provided 800 Christmas gifts for children who otherwise may have had none.

The Fort Mill Care Center is a non-profit organization completely run by volunteers. They are primarily focused on providing food, fuel, power, heat, and medicine to those who are in immediate need of assistance.

If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, the Fort Mill Care Center is sure to have an opportunity for you. Whether it be a gift of time, money, or non-perishable food items, any help would be greatly appreciated. The more people who donate, the greater impact the Care Center can have on the community. Check their website or follow them on Facebook to see which items they are running low on.

Pet of the Month: Lucas

Meet Lucas! He’s still a very young dog and hasn’t quite grown into his long legs yet. When taking walks during the hot summer weather, Lucas likes to take a little break every now and again and relax. That’s what he’s doing in the picture. In addition to long legs, Lucas also has oversized paws. You should see him try and scratch the back of his head with one of them.

Lucas is an easy-going and playful dog and he seems to get along well with the other dogs at the Humane Society of York County which is where he currently lives. He likes to go on walks and does really well on a leash for his young age. Whenever I take him for a walk and he sees another dog, he lays down on the ground almost like he is bowing to them or showing them respect. He really is a sweet boy and would love to have a furever home.

If you are interested in meeting Lucas, stop by The Humane Society of York County between 1pm and 4pm Tuesday-Sunday. He would love to get to know you.

If you aren’t able to adopt, but are interested in helping the Humane Society think about attending the next Volunteer Orientation on Saturday July 7. The Cat Orientation begins at 9am followed by a Dog Orientation at 10am.

And mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Dog Gone Good Time Festival which will be taking place September 29, 2012 at Elisha Park in Fort Mill. There will be a dog walk and festivities and hopefully the event will raise gobs of money for the Humane Society.

Sandy is a female adult dog (terrier Mix) available for adoption at The Humane Society of York County.

She is a friendly dog who likes to go on walks and is good on a leash.

If you are interested in Sandy, you can meet her between 1-4pm every day except Monday.

hundreds of homeless cats and dogs.

If you’re a pet lover and want to help but don’t have room for another pet in your home, become a member

Open 1-4pm every day except Monday

Pet of the Month: Ace

Ace is a very handsome and friendly medium-sized dog currently available for adoption at the Humane Society of York County. He was surrendered to the Humane Society by his family because they no longer had time for him and I know he would very much like to be a part of a family again. Ace is a good-natured and happy dog and he likes to take walks. If you are interested in adopting a dog, you can visit with Ace and the other adoptable dogs at The Humane Society of York County between 1-4pm Tuesday through Sunday.

Even if you are not currently looking to adopt a dog, consider being a volunteer at the Humane Society. The Humane Society relies very heavily on volunteers and you can commit as little or as much time as you desire. Dog walkers are needed daily between 8:30 and 11am. Once you have gone through Volunteer Orientation (only takes about 1 hour) you are free to drop in any time during volunteer hours, grab a leash and a dog and head out for a walk in the surrounding neighborhood. Even if you only have 20 minutes to stop in and walk one dog, it is time very well spent.

Look at the size of that tongue!
