Compare Foods is a small, independent supermarket that carries all major brands, plus a great selection of ethnic foods, primarily Hispanic. The Rock Hill Store is located on Cherry Rd just across from the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
The produce section alone is worth the Trip to Compare. They have all your standard fruits and vegetables plus a vast array of exotic and hard to find produce. Even a few things that make you scratch your head and say What in the world is that?
Mangos, guava, yucca root, cactus leaves, papaya, and all kinds of fresh peppers. It really is a feast for the eyes. The quality and freshness of the produce is very good, as are the prices. They had bags of key limes for $1.99. Try finding that at the Teeter.
Walking through the produce section at Compare makes me want to take some ethnic foods classes because I have no idea what to do with half the foods.
Love the cheese section where I found a big bag of Cotija Cheese, a wonderful cheese that almost tastes like a cross between Parmesan and Feta and tastes wonderful sprinkled on salads.
On the left side of the store is a bakery and prepared foods counter. They have all kinds of tacos and other hot foods. We ordered some beef tacos to go and they came in wonderfully fresh corn tortillas with lots of cilantro and fresh onion.
Anybody have any tips for what to do with cactus leaves or yucca root? Think I may have to order a few Rick Bayless cookbooks.

[...] My favorite part of this salad is the Cotija cheese- a wonderful, salty, crumbly Mexican cheese. You might not be able to find Cotija cheese at your local market, but it’s worth seeking some out at a store that specializes in Mexican and Latin American foods. If you live in the Fort Mill area, you can find shelves full of Cotija cheese at Compare Foods. [...]
