Shows like Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes have really put the spotlight on what can be done with cakes when you combine creativity, ingenuity, and talent. These bakeries are really producing some amazing cakes (and their customers spend a small fortune on them!).
But finding a truly exceptional cake locally for your special occasion can be a challenge.
Enter Sarah Deer and her home-based business Sweet Scene Cakes. Sarah, a Baxter resident, has been baking cakes for a number of years. But the passage of the SC Cottage Food Law last year gives her and other home-based bakers more flexibility and legitimacy to really make a go of this business. (Read about The Cookie Empire, another Baxter home-based business here.)
Sarah works full-time during the week in the pharmaceutical research business, and she normally takes on just one cake a week so that she can make it her primary focus on the weekend. Sarah uses the highest quality ingredients to produce cakes that are as delicious and fresh as they are beautiful. Classic and simple cake styles are her favorites, but Sarah is also very adept at creating cakes with super creative and challenging designs.

This converse shoe has to be one of the most amazing cakes I’ve ever seen! Sarah has an online tutorial for it.
The most requested flavors are White Chocolate, Carrot, Lemon Pound Cake, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Rum, White, and White Almond Sour Cream, but Sarah is willing to completely customize a cake to suit your tastes and style.
This cake was published in the Dec 2012 issue of Cake Central Magazine
