If you are a guacamole lover you’ll want to check out Cantina 1511. Located in the Stonecrest Shopping Center, Cantina 1511 is known for its tableside guacamole. They bring the avocados and all the add-ins to the table and make it to your liking, smooth or chunky. Delicious!
There is another Cantina 1511 on East Blvd in Dilworth. Both restaurants were started by famed Charlotte restaurateur Frank Scibelli who also started Midwood Barbecue, Mama Ricotta’s, and Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. The two Cantina 1511′s were recently sold to Quantum Development a South African based company that also owns Mugg and Bean.
Cantina 1511 can get crowded, especially on the weekends but they do take reservations. Inside the restaurant there is a large dining area to the right with a variety of seating including semi-circular booths. The lighting is low and the design is modern. To the left is a large bar area where you can hang out and have a margarita or maybe a margarita flight while waiting for a table.
There’s also a nice patio area which is a popular place to eat on a nice day.
The menu has a nice selection of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and quesadillas. If you’re looking for something a little lighter there is a Seared Salmon Salad with Garbanzos, Cucumber, Corn, and Cojita Cheese ($14.75). I’m smitten with the Barbacoa de Puerco ($13.25) succulent pieces of roast pork, tortillas, beans, rice, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo. The pork has all the right flavors, it’s salty and juicy with a few crispy pieces and lots of pork fat dispersed throughout.
