Like many of you, I’ve driven by The Dive N literally hundreds of times and always wondered if their food was good. I’ve noticed on more than one occasion that they happen to do a pretty good business.
Last week my husband and I had the opportunity to have a rare midday lunch together, but it needed to be quick and I also wanted to go to World Market as I am on an endless quest for props for my food photography (I never seem to have just the right bowl). I suggested The Dive N since I thought we would be in and out fast and it’s just a few miles from World Market.
The building itself is very small and the interior is decorated 50s-diner style. Immediately once you walk in, you approach a small counter where you order. The menu is written on a chalk board behind the counter. The offerings are similar to other Greek-run restaurants in the area; burgers, sandwiches, gyros, fried fish, and salads. They are also open for breakfast.
I ordered Jimmy’s Special- 2 burgers with cheese, special sauce, and onion rings on top. The lady who took my order asked me if I wanted to make that just 1 burger. I hesitated. Did she think I didn’t need a second burger? Did she subliminally know I was cheating on my diet? Or was she just trying to be helpful and reasoned that I wouldn’t be able to eat a second burger?
I went with the single patty, only because I would have felt like a pig if I turned down her suggestion and asked for two.
Most of the seating is outside in front of the building and we decided to grab one of the picnic tables, all of which have nice, big umbrellas. There is also a small covered patio area.
The burger was pretty good with a nice fresh bun and juicy meat. The special sauce was very mustardy and the onion ring was forgettable. The sweet potato fries were just so-so, they could have been crisper and the regular fries were not to my liking. They do have crushed ice and that’s a big plus. Overall, I must say that I prefer Mr. K’s which is very similar to this place, although I haven’t eaten there in years so its possible the food has gone downhill.
The real draw at The Dive N is the super friendly service and the reasonable prices. Everyone was extremely pleasant and we were offered multiple drink refills. Frequent customers can get a customer card and every $5 you spend you get a star punched. When all stars are punched you get a free burger plate.
