Have you been thinking about getting your butt off the couch but weren’t quite sure how? The Couch to 5k Running Program is the perfect way to turn your dreams of getting fit and losing weight into a reality.
This is the second year The Recreation Complex in Fort Mill has offered a Couch to 5k program to get beginning runners ready to run the Springmaid 5k in November. The Springmaid 5k takes place November 3, 2012 in the Fort Mill Neighborhood of Springfield. The course runs along neighborhood streets and parts of the golf course and it is a fairly challenging course with some hills.
The Couch to 5k program lasts 9 weeks and starts with easy run/walk intervals the first week. Each week the run segments get longer and the walk segments shorter. By week 9 you are running for 30 minutes straight. You can find a complete description of the program at coolrunning.com.
This years Couch to 5k Program starts September 13 and runs until November 1. Cost is $60 for members of the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex and $70 for Non-members. Participants receive a $5 discount on the Springmaid Road Race.
An information meeting will take place September 6th at 7pm in the lobby of the Recreation Complex. Program will include a weekly group run Thursdays at 7pm in the Springfield Neighborhood. Run starts from Springfield Golf Clubhouse.
My husband and I participated in last years program and it was fantastic. Unfortunately I didn’t make it all the way to the end because of a temperamental lower back, but I’m going to give it another shot this year.
The running coaches are amazing and having a support group of other people trying to achieve the same goal is very motivating. Plus it’s always nice to put yourself in situations where you can make a new friend or two.
If you’re thinking it might be time to dust off those running shoes you bought years ago, stop by the complex and sign up and we can pound the streets together.
