I’ve been blogging here at Fort Mill SC Living for about a year and a half now. During this time I have learned a little about what I most enjoy about blogging and about what other people respond to.
The original intent of this site was to showcase the town of Fort Mill and provide a resource for people relocating to the area. But my love of food and cooking tends to dominate this blog because those are the things I am most passionate about. So…….I have decided to start a new blog, www.SpicySouthernKitchen.com, which will be 100% recipe-based. I will still post recipes on Fort Mill SC Living (primarily healthy recipes) but I want the content going forward to be based more on local information- things to do, restaurants, real estate, business profiles, and fun day trips.
I get about 2-4 emails a month from people who are moving to the Charlotte area and have found my blog to be helpful. It gives me so much pleasure to know that I have maybe helped just a little make a very difficult and stressful transition easier. I do have a background in real estate and currently have an active real estate license, but am thinking of inactivating my license. I have given a number of realtor recommendations recently, but I have not sought a referral fee. It is my thought that the benefit people feel when they read my blog is that they are getting an honest opinion and maybe even forming a friendship. If I was seeking to sell them a house or make money off of them, it just feels like a conflict of interest.
I do make some money off this site from google ads and Amazon.com affiliate links. I am also thinking about writing an ebook that would really go into detail about the Fort Mill area and would charge a small fee for it. Going forward I am also going to dedicate some time to better organizing the content on this site and maybe adding a few slideshows to showcase things around town. If you have any suggestions regarding future content or improvements I could make, let me know. I am all ears. You can contact me at Christin@FortMillSCLiving.com.
